If you are like me, you run a lot of fun programs on start-up. Of course, you shouldn’t just open everything at start-up, but it easily gets to the point where it takes a significant amount of time for your PC to load up all the programs you love so dearly after logging in.

I like to turn on my PC, walk away, eat a 5 course meal, and then come back. Nothing ruins this more than your PC still not being completely ready for use after you return. I don’t have time to login, wait for stuff to load, and only then use my PC.

So, let’s set it up to automatically log in, and then lock. No less or more secure.

  1. Get Tweak UI
    1. Run TweakUI, go to the “Logon” section, and then “Autologon”
    2. Check “Log In Automatically”, with the user name you wish
    3. Click “Set Password” and give it your password
    4. Click OK, and Apply as needed, and then close TweakUI
  2. Manually do the same thing the Registry File does:
  • Press Windows+R to bring up the Run box
  • Run regedit.exe
  • Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
  • Right click, and make a New->String Value
  • Call it “lock” (or whatnot)
  • Right click on that, and Modify
  • Enter the value: rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation
  • Click OK, and you’re done

3. Delay auto-start application with Startup Delayer v2.3.130

Startup Delayer version 2.3.127 beta has been released. This program grants you the power to speed up your computer’s startup process. It allows you to choose and specify which program to start first and which program to start later.

Every time your Windows loads its Startup file, it loads every program in there. As many programs tend to be loaded at one time, it will slow down your PC and startup process. This is due to your CPU trying to help all the programs to load and your hard disk accessing multiple files.
With Startup Delayer, you can set a custom delay for each program to be loaded after Windows has started. You can set how many seconds before you want the programs to start loading. The customized process is simple. You can just drag the visual display graph which shows you exactly how your programs are starting and allows you to easily modify the order or adjust delay times.

Startup Delayer is easy to install and setups quickly. To get started, download Startup Delayer and install it and follow the instructions.

After installation has completed, Startup Delayer will open, showing you a list of Programs that start when you logon. The first thing you want to do is activate it by clicking on the red icon on the toolbar labeled SD and selecting Graphical Version.

When in Graphical Version mode, Startup Delayer will display showing the status of each Program as it is starting during the logon process.

Next, double click on each Program and set the delay to the time you want to specify then click save. I like to start with three seconds for the first one and increment by three to five seconds for each Program until I'm finished.

Once you have made you settings, you are finished and ready for a faster logon time. Inthe future, as you install programs, open up Startup Delayer and and set the delay time for the new program.

Other settings include manually adding programs by selecting File \ Add Program from the menu, adding more information to the interface by adding columns (right click and select Columns) or stopping Startup Delayer by selecting Actions \ Deactivate Startup Delayer.
